The simplest trick to be more strategic (block 1 hour to start your week)

It’s shocking how many people start Monday by diving into their todo list or first meeting.

This is reactive not strategic.

One of the first things I do when coaching leaders is to have them block one protected hour for strategic thinking before the week takes over.

This single habit helps you:

  • Align your calendar and task list with your real priorities and cancel junk meetings.

  • Spot risks early, like the projects that won’t move metrics or customers who are quietly churning.

  • Prep for strategic meetings: answer the hard questions, know the numbers cold.

  • Stop avoiding difficult things like performance issues or the stakeholder who is mad at you.
